About

The South Dakota Army National Guard 196th MEB invites you to join us for the Beast of the East Endurance Team event at Howard Wood Field on June 22, 2024.

The course will consist of fitness stations that will challenge participants physically and mentally.

  • Zone 1: Before zone one starts, each group will be given a list of 7 words they must remember. (this will come into play at the 5th Endurance Team zone) Each participant will sprint 100 yards where they will find 2 Jerry Cans filled with water. They will then return the jerry cans to the original start point. Once the jerry cans are returned to the original start point they will then Burpee Broad Jump to the center of the Field ( the Burpee Broad Jumps will be done one participant at a time, so one participant will follow the other participant doing the Burpee Broad jumps once that participant wants to switch out the other participant must start with that participant doing the Burpee Broad jumps left off and they will only switch out from the standing position). Once they have reached center field, they will have to do a 50 Calorie burn on assault bike. This station will be for time.
  • Zone 2:  There will be a pile of equipment in a general area that each participant must move strategically to another location approximately 100 yards away. The equipment will consist of 3 sandbags, Rubber Randy, 2 Rubber Ducks, 2 Ammo Cans, 2 Jerry Cans. Rubber Randy and the Weapons must never be left alone. This lane will be for time.
  • Zone 3: Given one-row machine, the pair will have to row exactly 1500 meters in under 5 mins. For every 100 meters the group is short they will have to bear crawl down to a marked off distance and back. This penalty will be like the burpee broad jump, one participant will follow the other participant doing the bear crawl, once that participant wants to switch out the other participant must start with that participant doing the bear crawl left off and they will only switch out from the standing position until they have completed the penalty loop. This lane will be for time.
  • Zone 4: Given a 50lb ball each participant will simply pass the ball over a certain obstacle about chest height and every minute on the minute each group must complete 10 hand release pushups before they can continue passing the ball back over the obstacle. This zone will be for ball reps completed.
  • Zone 5: This zone will have seven tires, all with various sizes, and one of these tires will have to make it from one location to another set location; they can move the tire any way they want other than rolling it. This is where the memorization will come into play. We will have 15 note cards listed with various words and seven words given to you at the first zone. The participants would be asked note card by note card if this word was one of the original words they were asked to memorize. The tire size will reduce depending on how many they can get right. This zone will be graded for time. Time will start once the question portion has been completed.
  • 100m Up armored HMMWV Pull- Members of the team pull Up Armored HMMWV 100 meters, clock stops when HMMWV crosses 100m line. For Time
  • Accuracy Grenade Toss: Each team member will throw (6) grenades each (2) at each tire from behind a wooden wall.  We will have (3) tires.  Small, medium and large.  Large is (1) point, medium is (3) points, and small is (5) points.  If no grenades are made, we will take each participant's closest shot and add the distance for a tiebreaker.  Participants must throw their grenades behind the wooden wall made by the pallets.
  • Kim's Game:  Members of a team will individually take 60 seconds to walk around a six-foot folding table, upon which there will be an assortment of household and office items (around 50 items). Upon completing the 60-second walk-around, the table will be covered, and the members will have 90 seconds to write down everything they can remember. Participants must write legibly, or their unreadable entries will not be scored. Once an individual has completed the event, ensure they stand in a different location from participants who have not yet gone.  Scores will be determined by the number of items correctly identified by each team. Max possible score: 100, equaling one point per item correctly identified. This means if both members correctly identify an item, they still get a point for that item for the team.
  • Leadership Reaction Course: Get your blindfolded teammate through a series of obstacles by giving them directions. For Time
  • Standing Power Throw (SPT): 3 throws per person  (1 practice) and points are based off total distance of both team members Scoring range 1 to 15.  Demonstration will be conducted prior to teams throws.

***Teams with the lowest point total at the end will win. Scoring is based on the place each team finishes in each event (1st=1 Point, 10th=10 points).
